Preface

Purpose

Learn to inspect an AI-assisted bioinformatics analysis, verify evidence, distinguish supported conclusions from errors or uncertainty, and communicate justified corrections.

Who this is for

Researchers, postgraduate students, bioinformatics practitioners, educators, and scientific AI evaluation candidates. Participation does not assume affiliation with a particular institution, country, employer, or qualification.

Prerequisites

You should be able to read a data table, interpret basic statistical results, describe biological replication, and read and run a short R script. Each case will introduce its domain-specific background. Learners needing preparation should first practise these skills using relevant CDI foundation guides.

Learning outcomes

  • Frame an answerable scientific question.
  • Check data provenance, study design, and analytical assumptions.
  • Verify reported results using code and supplied evidence.
  • Assess biological claims and acknowledge uncertainty.
  • Produce a reproducible evaluation report with actionable feedback.

How to use the finished practical

Attempt each task before opening its worked explanation. Record your reasoning and evidence as you go. The planned sequence moves from a guided RNA-seq case to a partially guided microbiome case and an independent single-cell case.

Access and tools

The core exercises will use supplied responses and small datasets; a paid AI account will not be required. R verification scripts will live in scripts/R/. Chapters will display code without executing it during rendering. Package versions and setup instructions will be finalized when the case workflows are implemented.

Scope

This resource develops demonstrable skills. Completion does not guarantee recruitment, employment, project access, or income. Exercises are original teaching materials, independent of employer assessments and workshop curricula.
